maria mihailik
Maria Mihailik has been an artist I have always enjoyed listening to, as I have a deep admiration for the timbre of her voice, something which I find extremely personal to her.
Therefore, when I saw her announce the release of Constant Stranger on social media, I was eager to give it a listen.
The enthusiastic scrabble to begin injecting my ears with the music was immediately mellowed by the lush fingerpicked guitar, attributed to Gabriel Pearcey on the track listing.
Maria’s voice is hauntingly beautiful, a quality that is expressed so clearly throughout the song as she explores and ponders profound questions.
The lyrics are undoubtedly strong, with clear, vivid imagery that accompanies the music masterfully.
Stripped back production is something I am a big fan of, but it is an art in its own right and still requires good decision-making.
Billy Ward- member of post-punk outfit Man/Woman/Chainsaw– is credited with the production, and he has done a phenomenal job in capturing the raw beauty of the song.
The song has potential to perhaps be developed even further, however this serves as an effective starter to precede the future buffet of Maria Mihailik’s music.
My appetite has certainly been whet, and I strongly recommend other peckish consumers to give it a listen.
